Curriculum
Highgate's well-rounded curriculum cultivates a balanced and engaging educational experience, based on the British National Curriculum.
Recent research and development in educational practices continue to enlighten the school's teaching practices, ensuring that Highgate is a modern and dynamic place.
Our curriculum is tailored to prepare our students for adult life in the 21st century, giving students strong roots in literacy, numeracy, creativity and, most of all, developing a desire to learn. This means Highgate pupils are flexible and equipped to succeed in an ever-changing world.
The Core Subjects
English, Maths, Science and Information Communication Technology
These subjects provide pupils with the core skills required to 'learn to learn' - for life. Language acquisition is of paramount importance in the development of thought, comprehension and expression. Maths develops logic, problem solving and numeracy and is an important foundation for developing an understanding of the sciences. Science develops children's enjoyment of exploration, hypothesis and investigation skills. I.C.T. is a skill that is vital in adult life and Highgate recognises this by placing the subject at the heart of its curriculum.
The Foundation Subjects
Art, P.E., Music, Dance and Drama, P.S.H.E., Humanities, Geography, History, Greek, French, Spanish, Turkish, Film Studies, Media Studies and European Studies.
The foundation subjects are designed to enhance pupils’ core educational experience by fostering creativity, culture, performance, furthering language skills and developing greater intellectual understanding. Highgate is particularly proud of its excellent reputation in the creative arts and for incorporating innovative subjects such as Media Studies. What's more, Highgate has recently become the first trilingual school in Cyprus, reflecting the school's multi-national ethos. The school supports the English, Greek and Turkish languages.
